Changing of the guard @ 9:19 AM

Here's the open door... because we love to share our house. Although I'll be the first to admit I have a difficult time sharing our home when we are in the process of moving. That would be my OCD's fault. It's hard for me to concentrate on guests knowing my home is in an uproar. I can't stand a messy home! So APOLOGIES to anyone who has happened to come over on the rare occasion our home is unsettled. For the most part, our home stays tidy and ready to accept anyone! God definitely seems to humble me on that 1% of time our home is in moving transition. I swear that's when we receive the most unexpected visitors. I love the fact that God's work in me never ceases! Well, the Harpers have lived here in Folsom for 2 full years, so we are truly settled.

This week the colors changing in the neighborhood foliage have inspired me to change our "accessory" colors in our home. Yay! it's fall! For the most part, I advocate neutral colors for the home to allow a "Ka-POW!" of color in decor accessories. This allows me to change the feel of my home with the season change ....sans extreme painting or the uncomfortable mash-up of too many colors.

NEUTRAL palette + BOLD accessories= BALANCED seasonal home decor.

In our household, I changed out the summer yellow accessories to this lovely burnt orange-red color. Totally simple and cheap! (Let's just say I did some neighborhood pruning of some lovely bushes.) I added a couple of red-orange pillows for *pop* and some gold-tipped brown vines for elegance.

Come take a walk through and stay awhile!

Entry

Dining area:
a few sprigs of berries make a bold statement

Dining area

View of dining and Living Room:
an echo of the dining arrangement is found next to the TV
This unifies the two spaces

Living Room
Gold-tipped branches and bright pillows pull in fall theme and color.

Hall between Dining and Family Room:
We display our skis as a constant reminder of the upcoming season
(Plus, they match with some burnt orange-red lettering)

Divided Dining Room and Family Room:
Although each are distinct spaces, I added the gold-tipped branches and firewood
to tie the rooms together complete with the fall theme

Family Room Fireplace:
Soon to have block candles in the fireplace

Changing of the guard to seasonal colors does NOT have to involve digging tons of rubbermaid containers from the depths of the attic. Keep it simple. Remember that bold accessories should be minimal in number and not cluttery.
